一种三环二萜类含氧化合物，是最重要的树脂酸之一。 不溶于水，溶于一般有机溶剂和稀氢氧化钠溶液，溶于醇、苯、氯仿、丙酮、醚和二硫化碳。工业用的松香酸是黄色玻璃状固体，熔点有时可低至85℃。天然产物合成的起始物质。 应用 ： 松香酸可用作以下物质的制备前体： 环氧和石油化工固化剂。 具有潜在抗肿瘤、抗真菌和抗病毒活性的脱氢松香酸衍生物。 它还可用作以下物质的总合成起始材料： (−)-雷公藤内酯酮和(−)-雷公藤内酯，强效的抗肿瘤剂和免疫抑制剂 醌(−)-12-脱氧总状土木香醌，抗利什曼病试剂 松香酸衍生儿茶酚（甲基11,12-二羟基松香酸-8,11,13-三烯-18-甲酯，MDTO），潜在的抗氧化剂 Starting material for natural product synthesis.
